Warden Escape[2] was an accidental event in Season 9 that happened while Docm77 was transporting a group of Wardens to his Perimeter, and due to unfortunate factors some of them escaped on the nether roof. At first Docm77 made an attempt to control the situation and kill the problematic mobs, but when it turned out that there were more than he could handle alone he called for reinforcements. Soon after that BdoubleO100, JoeHills, VintageBeef and xBCrafted showed up to help. Together, they managed to get rid of all the free Wardens on the nether roof by killing them one at a time or in smaller groups.

Event summary[]

Causes[]

During Season 9, Docm77 dug up a huge Perimeter, earning a large amounts of deepslate diamond ore in the process. He had so many of these blocks that he was free to use them as building blocks for the redstone grid in his mechanisms. One of these uses was Docm77's own TCG arena, which consumed almost the entire deepslate diamond ore supply and created a need for more. For this purpose he built a machine capable of digging a large space with TNT dupers. However, it also meant a large space for annoying, aggressive mobs to spawn in. As a solution to this problem, Docm77 decided to use a "train" full of Wardens, which would prevent other mobs from spawning in the area, so he went to his old Warden farm.

Escape[]

First escape[]

Docm77's Warden farm had an outlet on the nether roof, from where mobs could be transported to the Perimeter with a flying machine. After arriving he found two Wardens there, so he used them to check if the mechanisms still work. He managed to send one Warden in the flying machine, but the other escaped, luckily it focused on the note block and didn't go away from the farm. Docm77 managed to kill it without much difficulty, shooting it with a bow and flying with elytra to escape the mob's range.

Another escape[]

When the situation was under control, he prepared another transport of about twenty (according to his estimates) Wardens. Again, the launch of the flying machine led to the escape. This time it was caused by the open fence gate leading to the now absent vehicle. Docm77 reacted quickly and managed to close the passage. There were four Wardens on the loose: first one followed the flying machine and the others stayed near farm lured by note block.

Docm77 focused on the receding Warden first because he needed to keep the flying machine within render distance. He tried the same fighting strategy as before, but this Warden had more health, so it lasted long enough to kill him with a second hit of sonically charged shriek.

Using a spare elytra, Docm77 quickly returned to the nether roof. His equipment lay near the free Warden, and the flying machine stopped because it was no longer within loaded chunks. At first Docm77 retrieved his stuff by repeatedly landing on the spot of his death and collecting as much as he could before quickly escaping back into the air. After that, he killed the free Warden, this time keeping a safe distance. Finally, he tried to restart the flying machine. However, it turned out that the vehicle stopped in an unfavorable position, so he turned it back to the farm to restart it from there.

Knowing that there were still three free Wardens at the farm, he decided to call for backup and wrote in the chat: "you guys got some time to snipe 3 warden on the nether roof?".

Team up[]

Several Hermits answered the call. One of them was JoeHills, however he didn't know whether to join as his sister was visiting and playing the guitar, but Docm77 convinced him by saying that he needed everybody.[3] VintageBeef also declared his help and prepared healing potions before arriving.

Docm77 waited for his backup at the nether roof entrance above the central room of the nether hub. The following appeared in the place: xBCrafted, VintageBeef, BdoubleO100 and JoeHills. They were all armed with bows and elytras. BdoubleO100 was the only one not wearing diamond or netherite armor, instead he had mostly chainmail, as he said he came mainly to watch, but did end up helping in the fight.

Once everyone had gathered, Docm77 led them towards the farm. However, as they got close, he noticed that there were more Wardens on the loose. The others didn't see it until they got closer to the farm because they had a closer field of view. It turned out that when the flying machine arrived, some of the mobs somehow got out of it. Docm77 suspected there might be about twenty Wardens outside (as there were about twenty in the flying machine), focused on the note block. His team started joking about escaping from him, but eventually they stayed and helped eliminate all of them.

Trivia[]

  • Earlier in season 9, a similar situation happened at TangoTek's Wither farm. Three Withers had escaped and were free in the nether, so TangoTek had to call other Hermits to get the situation under control.[7]
  • One of the Wardens during the fight got into the portal that leads to Docm77's arrow cannon. After that Docm77 considered that place as lost due to lack of space to fight this Warden.[8]
  • BdoubleO100 kept the two Warden heads after the fight and used one of them as trophy-decoration in throne room of his Cyberpunk Temple.[9]
  • JoeHills kept several Warden heads after the fight and used them to line the pathway at his spawn house.[10]
  • After server was updated to 1.20 JoeHills managed to find first camel on Hermitcraft. He later moved this mob to spawn area through the tunnel he dug in the nether. When it was suggested to him to transport a camel through the nether roof, he responded "Have you been up there? There's wardens up there, I don't have time for that.".[11]
