TinFoilChef, also written as Tinfoil Chef or abbreviated as TFC, was a YouTuber and member of Hermitcraft. He joined in Season 2 and was an active member up until his passing on August 13, 2022, during Season 9. He has 125,000 subscribers.[1] His most viewed video is Hermitcraft 9 Ep4.
Season 2[]
TinFoilChef joined Hermitcraft Season 2 at the same time as Sl1pg8r, Spumwack, Marriland, and MumboJumbo, who had all played on the FTB server alongside the Hermits. During his first few weeks on the server, TinFoilChef claimed a small island where he created a couple farms and a cobblestone shack, a base which he had called his 'Very Humble Abode.' When the server updated to 1.7, he was one of the first to move to New Hermiton, building a giant replica of a red mushroom out of stained glass, with several underground farms and a strip mine that led to his base. This base was a small incomplete castle on a hill not far from New Hermiton, with several large farms around it and a motel (called Motel 1.7) a short distance away that served as a landmark on the horse racing track. Aside from these bases, he created a few other projects, including a shop called Needfull Things, which sold tools and armor, and his participation in the ABBA caving tournament and UHCs. He made 52 episodes during this season.

Season 3[]
The giant hairy eyeball built by TFC.
TinFoilChef was present for the beginning of Season 3, and claimed a plot next to ZombieCleo, building a small, partially underground house, a large sphere made out of green wool that he called the Great Green Hairy Eyeball, and an underwater tunnel leading to his area from Crown Hall. His base on Season 3 was a bunker underneath a tree farm, and doesn't appear like much on the surface. He had a custom box in the Ironball arena and an area in the Christmas village (though not much was done with this), both signified with his banner, and he founded an organization called C.O.F.F.E.E., in retaliation against the Tea Eaters. However, the group's only other confirmed member was xBCrafted, though it was rumoured that Topmass was an honorary member during one of xBCrafted's livestreams.

TinFoilChef settled somewhat near ImpulseSV in the Season 4 residential area, initially constructing a house of playing cards made of diorite, but eventually tearing this structure down, (save for one at the bottom) in favor of creating a giant diamond, made of blue stained glass and diamond blocks. He built a large suburban house and a Patreon monument next to DangLand, and a large base that was entirely underground called G.U.T.S. (Great Underground Tree System), a place he never disclosed the location of but created a treasure hunt that led to it. All of his main builds for Season 4 were interconnected through his strip mine.

Tinfoilchef's Season 5 base
TinFoilChef began work on a re-creation of a Coestar build from the Coe's Quest series towards the beginning of the season, which was a large stone and oak wood castle. The project continued throughout the duration of the season, with multiple side projects within the walls. Towards the end of the season, the ConVex pranked him with a giant Jellie cat hurling bits of light blue glazed terracotta (Vex Magic) at the build, which was rapidly cleaned up for the end of the season.

Season 6[]
TinFoilChef constructed a vault, called a bunker by many, near what later became Sahara's main office. It was based on the Vault-Tec bunkers from the Fallout video game series. It also featured a massive replica of a sentinel sphere from the film Phantasm, which was supposed to serve as a security system. His base, a small wooden hut with windows, led to an extensive system of mines. He was the twelfth Hermit to die in Demise, placing him in 7th place overall.
Main Base[]
On his first day of Season 6, TinFoilChef constructed a wooden shack which he believed was incredibly ugly. It was partially messed up due to a creeper explosion. However, despite the shack being "ugly" it was still the main entrance to his main base. He also has a very large Vault-Tec logo on the floor which has supposed to have an elevator going down into the residential levels but he couldn't find a way to do it. On his last episode of season 6 he created a massive sign declaring himself "TFC LORD OF THE DIAMONDS". This is because he had around 7 stacks of diamond blocks, mostly obtained from mining.
Floor 1[]
Floor 1 was the first constructed floor. It mainly featured farms, having a Chorus Fruit and Chorus Flower farm, wheat and potato farm, a tree farm, an automatic wool farm (which broke due to the entity mishap that killed the sheep in the farm), a cow farm (which also stopped working with the entity mishap), an automatic egg farm (which TinFoilChef disabled due to having a lot of eggs), and a small brewing area, which also has a small storage area.
Floor 2[]
Floor 2 consisted of many small farms that TinFoilChef never really bothered to harvest. He also installed a system that takes junk items and puts them into a composter on a different floor.
Floor 3[]
Floor 3 had a small bamboo farm. Earlier in the season it was a sugar cane farm but when 1.14 came around TinFoilChef changed it to a bamboo farm. This is the smallest floor of his entire base.
Floor 4[]
Floor 4 is the residential level of the vault. There is diorite piston door that opens up the residential level. There are some sea lanterns on End Rods that act as a security system to make sure people that are coming into the vault are free of any radiation from the surface. On one side there is a security room with some holding cells in the back. There is a small medical room on the other side of the hallway. There are many residential apartments and a large fake outside area with the Vault-Tec logo embedded into the floor. This level also includes a large storage area for the residents, a kitchen and the overseers quarters.
Floor 5[]
This was the experimental level. There was an upside-down apartment, an apartment filled with water and fish, a magma floored room, a room right next to the reactor, an end room and a diorite room built specifically for Iskall85.
Floor 6[]
Floor 6 was home to many farms and a storage system. There was also a super smelter and a kelp farm. This floor led down into TinFoilChef's branch mine which is around 800 blocks long.

Season 7[]
TinFoilChef constructed a tower (2x2 chunk) during season 7. He was unable to finish the base due to a number of health issues but some notably, having part of his right leg removed. Over the course of the season, he would post only a few videos, most of the time were spaced out by months.
Ground Level[]
On the first floor of his tower, he had constructed a small concrete building in the bottom left corner of the tower. In this building, he kept the entrance to his mine and most of his storage. The rest of the level was a tree farm.
Level 2[]
The second floor of his tower, was left empty and unfinished due to him not being able to finish the season. This was due to health issues which led to his inactivity on the server.
Level 3[]
On the third level of his tower, he built an auto-smelter which he constructed in Episode 22. This was the last major thing he would construct on season 7.
Top Level[]
On the top level of his tower, he built a sorting system. The sorting system was roughly the same design from season 6. He used a water elevator to bring items from his mine up to the top floor which then would be sorted.
Mine Shaft[]
TinFoilChef was not able to expand his mine shaft to the extreme level of past seasons, but he was able to make a decent sized mine. He used diorite and oak logs for the tunnel design.

Tinfoilchef's Season 8 Base
TFC's Season 8 Branch mine
Located just behind Grian's area outside Boatem Town, it consists of a small wooden hut on the surface, a Nether portal on a small island in the ocean, and a large deepslate rectangle outlining his intended main base build area. His starter base reaches deep underground into branch mines. He also has a small tree farm. His intent was to build a better version of his tower from Season 7, but TinFoilChef was unable to play for a chunk of Season 8 due to migraines and motion sickness, causing him to be unable to finish his base and unable to participate in the Season 8 finale in which the moon crashed into the Hermitcraft world.

Season 9[]
TinFoilChef's Season 9 base. This screenshot was taken from episode 17 on Grian's Hermitcraft season 9 series.
On his first day, he collected some basic materials, and began working on a small starter base made out of birch planks, dubbed “TFC’s Ugly as sin starter houselet thingy”. While doing this, he talked to GoodTimesWithScar, JoeHills, Welsknight, and others for a few minutes. Through the season, TinFoilChef expanded his branch mine, drowning in underwater caves and created an “Ugly little tree farm.” His plan for Season 9 was to “build ugly” with whatever blocks he could find. However, these plans were sadly cut short when he passed away on August 13, 2022.

Real Life[]
Edward Alan Langenback, born June 29, 1959, was part of a family of four siblings, comprising three sisters and a brother. Unfortunately, his brother and one of his sisters have since passed away. Edward resided in Arkansas, United States, for an extended period before relocating to Oklahoma in recent times. In March 2020, he underwent a medical procedure resulting in the amputation of his right leg below the knee, prompted by a health condition.
Other Channel[]
TinFoilChef has a secondary channel called simply TinfoilChef (as opposed to TinfoilChef's Gaming Channel). He mainly posts webcam vlogs where he discusses anything that happens to be on his mind, as well as having a long-running series of his journey to the Far Lands as a means of raising money for charity. Originally, the Tinfoil Chef channel was a parody of Iron Chef, but he eventually decided to use it for skits and vlogging.
Death[]
TinFoilChef's death[2] was announced on Twitter by his sister on August 13, 2022.[3] He passed away on the morning of August 13, 2022 after being rushed to the emergency room on Tuesday August 9, coughing so strongly, he broke a rib. There, doctors discovered previously unknown prostate cancer and an e-coli infection. He requested to be sedated that night. He developed a 107 °F (41.5 °C) fever; the morning of August 13, he succumbed to a fatal stroke.[4] He was 63 years old.
Trivia[]
- TinFoilChef was the oldest active Hermit, born in 1959, up until his death in 2022. This now makes Docm77 the oldest active Hermit.
- TinFoilChef had lived with a disfigured left arm after 1999 when it was broken in a car accident, as described in his vlog Weird Arm. In March 2020 he had part of his right leg amputated due to a serious infection, as described in his vlog Return of TinfoilChef - What Happened. Following this, he moved from his former home near Batesville, Arkansas to his sister's home in Oklahoma.
- Tinfoil Chef was originally just a name for his channel as a parody of Iron Chef. He kept the name, however, because it had a nice ring to it.
- TinFoilChef originally participated in Hermitcraft on their modded server. Xisumavoid wanted to create one set-in-stone Hermitcraft lineup on one vanilla server for Season 2, and TinFoilChef made the cut.
- TinFoilChef was unable to participate in the Season 8 finale, as he had gotten a severe case of motion sickness, as he stated in his video, "Hermitcraft 8 Thingz".
- In one of his last season 8 videos, ImpulseSV gifted TinFoilChef a shulker box with an elytra, and lots of firework rockets. This was a way of apologizing to TinFoilChef for the confusion about how to purchase elytra at ISoar.
- TinFoilChef participated in Hermitcraft spinoffs Hermitcraft UHC and Hermit Skies.
