The Upside Down is an area started by Grian in Season 7 after the 1.16 Nether Reset in Hermitcraft. The location is set over a lava lake surrounded by crimson forest, with a Basalt Delta tucked away to the side. The main idea is that the members should build their bases Upside-down.

Rules

The Upside Down enforces several rules: seen at the billboard in front of Grian's Upside-Down Mansion. The first rule was put in place for the safety of the Hermits, while the others were added by the members. Each new citizen adds one rule to the billboard.

1) Do Not AFK

Due to the quantity of piglins and ghasts spawning around The Upside Down, Grian added this rule for the safety of the citizens, just in case anyone dies and loses their stuff due to this circumstance. This is the only rule to be enforced so far.

2) All New Citizens MUST be PRANKED

This rule was added by Grian immediately after BdoubleO100's arrival to The Upside Down. The prank acts as an initiation into the group, with all initiated members (currently) being involved in the next prank. At the moment, BdoubleO100 and GoodTimesWithScar have been pranked, with MumboJumbo yet to be.

3) All entering The Upside Down must appear Upside-Down

(Added by BdoubleO100) To further compliment the theme, along with the buildings and 'Dinnerbone' Jellies, BdoubleO100 made the upside-down skin mandatory for all players entering The Upside-Down. There is a flipped switching station in the tunnel to the location similar to a toll booth, for the players to switch their skins.

Punishments

GoodTimesWithScar is the only one to have broken one of the rules (specifically Rule #1), evident in his speech in Episode 30. His punishment is Tunnel Duty for 30 Minutes, improving the tunnel with ice to allow boats to pass. There are currently no other punishments.

Invitations & Pranks

Grian has been inviting members to The Upside-Down with creations made from grindstones, a storage container with the invitation, and a Grian head: which he has gotten by requesting MumboJumbo, ZedaphPlays and Iskall85 to kill him, often with little to no hesitation.

Grian

Arriving in what would become The Upside Down, Grian attempted to build a simple gold farm, then he started building and completing the exterior of the Upside-Down Mansion. As he is the first to arrive in The Upside Down, it is unclear whether or not he is supposed to be pranked.

BdoubleO100

BdoubleO100 was the first to be invited, with a delivery Grian appearing inside his main diorite house. After he read the invitation, he said he will be thinking about it, immediately putting the invitation in the "Specialty Box / Trash Can". Later on in the episode, he was bombarded with more Delivery Grians filled with paper invitations instead. Grian then decided to stack up all the delivery Grians on top of each other to get his attention even more. The persistence eventually convinced him to join The Upside Down.

Once he moved in with his simple, upside-down starter hut, Grian decided to prank him, as well as making it a new rule for future members, by asking him to sleep and adding a bed in his hut to convince him easier. Bdubs was unaware that he was in the nether making the prank: being killed by [Intentional Game Design] (the bed exploding).

MumboJumbo

MumboJumbo's invitation was located on top of the Charrot on top of his Ancient Monument. He read the invitation in Episode 36 and moved in 4 episodes later. Unlike BdoubleO100 and GoodTimesWithScar, Grian was not persistent with his invitation.

Knowing that Grian pranked BdoubleO100 with the sleep prank, MumboJumbo wanted to make a Prank Starter House disguised as a Party House. Past the door would be a hidden jumpscare accompanied with a dying horse sound. However, when Grian stumbled upon the house, the door was already open even though it was not supposed to.

There is currently no information about MumboJumbo being pranked yet.
