Season 8, also known as Season VIII, was the eighth season of Hermitcraft. Season 8 started on June 19, 2021, and it ended on December 22, 2021. The world was created on the 1.17 version of Minecraft Java Edition. Lasting only 187 days (6 months and 4 days), Season 8 was the shortest of Hermitcraft's vanilla seasons.
The World[]
The world spawn was located on a continent surrounded by ocean and islands. The Hermits all settled on the main continent in order to live near each other. Currently the world has no world border.[1] On November 9, 2021, the Moon was noted to be unusually large, and over time it was discovered that it was approaching HC-8 (the planet's name given by Ren-Bob) contrary to its usual heliosynchronous orbit. It thus began to induce a very strong gravitational pull on blocks and players alike. On December 22, 2021, the Moon finally collided with the planet, ending the season.
First Day[]
The season was started by MumboJumbo welcoming everyone to Season 8, including new hermits GeminiTay and PearlescentMoon. The first on-screen death of the season was Grian dying by an Iron Golem, although TangoTek had died to an Iron Golem before the start of the recording session.
Iskall85 and EthosLab decided quickly to travel together and came across a shattered savannah biome where they started building their shared base.

BdoubleO100 and Keralis also decided to move together and soon came across TangoTek. The three of them decided to form the Big Eyes Crew and base together for the season. After an unsuccessful mining trip, they acquired their first diamond of the season by selling glow ink sacs to GeminiTay. After this encounter, they returned to TangoTek's starting area to build their starter bases.
Seed map
MumboJumbo and Grian ventured to the north to find a place to set up camp. On their journey to the north they came upon GoodTimesWithScar swimming through the ocean and brought him along with them. These three started a pact and decided that they would build their bases together. PearlescentMoon and ImpulseSV both found the group and decided to join as well. This led to the five all basing together in the north, with the center being the Boatem Pole, and in turn, became the Boatem Town.
Rendog and Docm77 arrived to the season with Ren-Bob and his hippie RV. The RV landed on a beach on the northwestern coast of the continent. Docm77 found a mysterious book in a shipwreck, which holds coordinates to a mysterious chunk dubbed the "Hermatrix". Rendog and Docm77 logged off for 2 minutes, which bought MumboJumbo and Grian just enough time to loot the shipwreck before Rendog and Docm77 logged back on. After rescuing goats near the Boatem Pole, Rendog and Docm77 dug a 6-block perimeter around this mysterious chunk. After some shenanigans and a server restart the chunk is filled with eight spawners.
Cubfan135 started the season by explaining that he had no concrete plans. After travelling north he came across Rendog's and Docm77's early starter base, a village near soon to be Boatem Town. From there he travelled east, coming across a plains biome near an ocean, where he dug a cave for himself.
iJevin started his season by explaining that he had an encounter with Evil Xisuma and due to that encounter is now a green slime. While early game mining he came across a zombie spawner and FalseSymmetry, who happened to be mining near the same area. After going back to the surface he met up with FalseSymmetry, GeminiTay and Stressmonster101. He later teamed up with Cubfan135 on a mining mission. Done mining, he went back to his swamp and dug himself a slime themed hole in the ground.
VintageBeef also travelled north and came across a nice flat mountain to build on. He built a blueprint and started building a disc. He also travelled to the End and got himself an Elytra.

Instead of there being a centralized shopping district like in previous seasons, all of the shops in Season 8 were scattered throughout the continent. This had led to the formation of communities of Hermits, with their own style, rules, and culture.

Trivia[]
- In a joke gone wrong, Generikb announced he was returning to Hermitcraft Season 8 and would be streaming on opening day.[5] He later admitted he was 'trolling' and he didn't mean to offend anyone.[6] The Hermits have said that it is over and they would like to put it behind them and enjoy Season 8.[7]
- With 187 days (6 months and 5 days), this was the shortest of Hermitcraft's Vanilla seasons.
- The hermits decided to do a shorter and more experimental season because Mojang split the Caves and Cliffs update in two shortly before Season Eight was supposed to start.[8]
- Season 8 was the first season where no Hermits left before the season, as every member of Season 7 took part in Season 8 as well.
- At some point in the season, Cubfan135 planted several structures around the server made of colored wool and Tinted Glass, resembling the Crewmates from Among Us.
