Mission Possible[1] (formerly Neighbor Missions or Neighborhood Missions[2]; unofficially called Her-Mission Possible by Iskall85[3] and Mission Impossible by GoodTimesWithScar) was a minigame in Season 10 created by Iskall85, similar to Hermit Challenges from Season 7 and Hermit Dares from Season 9. In this game, a Hermit draws a mission (from the pool prepared by Iskall85) and must comply with its content. The reward for completing the task are Mission Possible Tokens.

History[]

Causes and the idea[]

During first weeks of Season 10 Rendog noticed that he and some other Hermits settled in one area around the original spawn. He organized this region into The Neighborhood and its members into Ministry Of Ministers, in which everyone was given tasks. The ministry functioned mainly through meetings and Iskall85 thought that The Neighborhood needed something else.[4]

One day, while having the lunch,[5] Iskall85 got the idea for missions - minigame similar to Hermit Challenges from Season 7, a place where Hermits could get fun, random tasks.[6] Originally he assumed that the game could only be addressed for The Neighborhood members and considered calling it Neighbor Missions or Neighborhood Missions, however, he thought these were not the best names.[2]

Creation of a minigame[]

First building and missions[]

The Mission HQ original 3

The Mission HQ first design.

Iskall85 started implementing this idea on March 20, 2024,[7] he started by building a temporary building for drawing missions. It was located in the center of the Neighborhood, next to the nether portal. He also wrote the first six books containing descriptions of missions. Most of them were focused on building (Missions from #2 to #5) and some related to the Neighborhood (Missions #2 and #3).[8]

Once Iskall85 had some missions, he created a redstone contraption to draw them. When he tested it, he drew Mission #5 and decided that he had to follow the rules and complete it as a quality control. The task was "Build a house on top of another hermit's base", so he recreated regular cartographer villager house on the roof of Rendog's base.

The Mission HQ original 6

The Mission HQ second design.

In the meantime, Iskall85 slightly changed the design of minigame main location and to complete the building, he placed a book with instructions in it. He also decided that some sort of reward for participants was needed, so he temporarily added it there a chest with ghast tears renamed as Mission Tokens, planning to turn it into some custom items later.[9]

New missions[]

The next day[10] Iskall85 returned, during the livestream, to create more missions. He also revised six existing ones and modified (improving their form or changing the idea totally) those with which he was not satisfied. After that, none of them made any references to the Neighborhood. He also created many new missions by collaborating with viewers during the livestream, raising their amount to 19.[11]

Relocation of HQ and official name[]

Some time later it turned out that the location of The Mission HQ was earlier chosen by her for her project, so Iskall85 decided to remove it and build a new one in other location.[12]

In the meantime, he also chose the official name for his minigame, suggested by one of his viewers: Mission Possible. The new name no longer referred to the Neighborhood, which he found great, because he no longer wanted to target the game to members of this region, but to all Hermits. He still assumed that tests of Mission Possible (then he called it a beta test) could include mainly Neighborhood residents, before promoting it more widely.[13]

The Mission HQ (II) 2

New Mission HQ.

When looking for a new location Iskall85 considered incorporating it into Monstrosolith, but that would mean giving up the Mission #2 ("Improve this build (The Mission HQ) in any way you see fit."). In the end, he chose an open space north of his base, which is located more centrally between the other bases on the server. In the new building he recreated the original mission drawing contraption. Apart from that, the structure was in the form of a simple cuboid of stone, making a space for completing Mission #2.[14] When the new building was ready, all missions have been placed in the pool, what maked the place functional. Soon after that, Iskall85 convinced Docm77 to be the first to draw his mission.[15]

Later Iskall85 used relocation of The Mission HQ as an opportunity to present the newest mission "Prank your VIEWERS in any way you seem fit [...]". At the beginning of his next episode he showed that original Mission HQ were removed and lied that other Hermits hated his minigame, so he gave up on the whole project. Then he revealed content of Mission #21, new Mission HQ and also announced an official name.[16]

Alpha Phase[]

After the new headquarters was completed, the Mission Possible was ready to play. Iskall85 started alpha phase, to test the game among the Neighborhood members (Docm77 was considered as "pre-alpha tester"). During the first few days he managed to introduce and persuade to draw the mission Rendog, MumboJumbo, VintageBeef and Stressmonster101. However, Docm77 didn't complete his mission, Rendog and Stressmonster101 came back only to take Mission Tokens.

Xisumavoid was next participant introduced to Mission Possible, who joined after few weeks. He and VintageBeef were the only ones who decided to draw more missions.

The back of the mansion is still unfinished...

Missions[]

Missions are the main element of the minigame. These are tasks for the players that they are obliged to complete after drawing them. Each participant can only have one mission at a time, unless it is a side mission (however, side missions haven't been created yet). One mission can be drawn by the same person more than once.

The missions were described in written books, created by Iskall85. Each book contains the mission number in the title and a few sentences about the task in the content (no more than first page).

Iskall85 created the missions in such a way that they were fun and not too time-consuming or unbearable to complete. He also gave the opportunity to interpret the challenges in a certain way to complete them in different ways.

Missions in the pool[]

No. Mission Executor Execution
1.

"Completely buy out a
shop, in the shopping

(The Mission HQ) in any
way you see fit."[20]

[21]
(3rd mission, alpha testing)
VintageBeef replaced every block of stone with diorite.[22]
3.

"Do a good deed for
any hermit, without
them noticing and
without taking credit."[23]

(1st mission, alpha testing)
Rendog hid the gift for SmallishBeans, with lot of useful stuff, in SmallishBeans' base.[24]

(4th mission)
Skizzleman dropped off 16 redstone blocks at ImpulseSV's storage as a gift.[25]

* The timer starts
when you close this
book!"[27]

(not drawn yet)
-
5.

"Build a house on top
of another hermit's
base."[28][29]

(1st mission, quality control)

He drew this mission while testing the mission assignment contraption and decided he should accept it as quality control.

To complete the mission, he built a regular cartographer villager house on the roof of Rendog's base, in such a way that it would look like a terrain generation error.[30]

[31]
(4th mission, alpha testing)
(mission not yet accomplished)
6.

"Invent a new word and
say it multiple times in
conversations with
other hermits, if
called out convince
them it's an actual
word that means ..."[32][33]

[34][35]
(1st mission, alpha testing)
(complete, but not returned)

MumboJumbo invented the word "chuffle", but no one noticed it or asked about it. MumboJumbo considered the mission complete, but didn't know what to do next.[36][37]

7.

"Change a major
feature of your skin
(like for example your
shirt colour). Keep
that skin until at least
3 hermits points it out."[38]

"Build yourself a
bedroom in another
hermit's base, a
bedroom is only a
bedroom when it has
at least 1 bed, 1
ender chest, 1 light
source and a potted
bamboo plant.[39]

[40]
(1st mission, alpha testing)
VintageBeef found an empty place in the highest tower of Welsknight's castle and placed there bed, ender chest, lantern, potted bamboo plant and a sign "Beef's spare bedroom".[41]

(2nd mission)
Stressmonster101 was amused by receiving this mission, because a moment earlier she had refused to buy an apartment in The Grandieur. As soon as Iskall85 logged out, she went to the apartment he was trying to sell her and she turned it into her bedroom. Beyond required bed, ender chest, lantern and potted bamboo plant (which she almost forgot) she also rebuilt the entire place to have more room than just the facade. She changed walls color to cyan, added to the window magenta glass, door and landing platform, and put up a sign "Stress' Bedroom".[42]
[43]
(2nd mission)
SmallishBeans built a hidden bedroom in the lower tunnels of EthosLab's base.[44]
9.

"Make up a
weird/funny/wacky

"Impersonate another
hermit in
conversations with
hermits until someone
catches on, at which
point you can
consider this mission
compleated."[50]

[51]
(1st mission)
(mission not yet accomplished)
12.

"Convince another
hermit that they owe
you a favour, and get
them to carry out said
favour."[52]

[53]
(1st mission)
(mission not yet accomplished)
13.

"Start with a stick, and
trade your way up to
a diamond block using
as many hermits as
you need to achieve
your goal, without
offering anything else
in a trade (such as a
service).
This mission does not
have a time limit and
can span over a long
period of time."[54]

[55]
(2nd mission, alpha testing)
While VintageBeef was buying The Grandieur apartment from Iskall85, he dropped one extra diamond block in payment. He asked for it back in exchange for the stick. Iskall85 did it without hesitation and thanked for the stick, so VintageBeef considered the mission accomplished.[56]
[57]
(2nd mission)
(mission not yet accomplished)
14.

"Using a dice or
another randomiser,
select a RANDOM
hermit and build their
face on your base.
You are not allowed to
take it down until they
point it out."[58]

[59]
(1st mission)
BdoubleO100 made a simple randomiser machine and drew Zedaph, but when he realized the flaw in the machine he repeated the draw and this time he got Skizzleman. BdoubleO100 decided to build both faces and did so as a lawn decoration at his base. He was going to invite Skizzleman and Zedaph to have a chance to see it,[60] but before that happened Skizzleman visited his base while carrying out own mission and he found his face on his own.[61] He later considered this to be the end of the mission.[62]
15.

"Create a billboard in
the shopping district
for someone else's
shop.

Note, this shop has to
have no affiliation with
you whatsoever."[63]

[64]
(1st mission, alpha testing)
(mission not yet accomplished)
16.

"Create a present in
front of another
hermit's base, at least
5x5x5, sign it with
your name and a
happy birthday wish,
and put something
really useless inside
it (like for example a
stick, a block of
dirt)"[65]

(1st mission, alpha testing)
Stressmonster101 chose Skizzleman because she assumed that at that time it was too early for anyone from North America to appear on the server. She built a pink gift box in front of his pyramid and placed one block of packed ice in it.[66]

(1st mission)
xBcrafted left a gift containing a damaged anvil in the center of SmallishBeans' base.[67]

(3rd mission)
Skizzleman left in Grian's base a false diamond (retextured stick) packed in three boxes made of cherry leafs.[68]
17.

"Challenge another
hermit to a 1v1 fight
where both of you
wear no armour, have
no food, and can only
use a fish as your
weapon, do this until
you win. This mission
has no timelimit."[69]

[70]
(2nd mission, alpha testing)
During the server tour Rendog challenged GeminiTay to a fish fight on her fighting arena. He managed to defeat her on the first try.[71]

(8th mission)
Skizzleman challenged FalseSymmetry to a fish fight and managed to defeat her on the first try, however he did it with potion of invisibility, but he still counted it as a completed mission.[72]
18.

"Sell this mission (the
book itself) to
another hermit, as "A
book of value", without
disclosing that it is a
mission itself.

(If you bought this
book, follow its
objective)"[73]

(2nd mission, alpha testing)
At first Xisumavoid tried to sell it to Iskall85 by blackmailing him that he would not continue participating in Mission Possible. However, Iskall85 did not agree to this and instead he invited iJevin as a next target. When iJevin showed up, they pretended that Iskall85 really wanted to buy the book, but Xisumavoid intends to sell it only to iJevin. They also didn't say what was the content of it. Xisumavoid offered a price of 50 diamonds, iJevin replied with 30 diamonds, so they met in the middle and the mission was sold for 40 diamonds.[74][75][76]

(1st mission)
(mission not yet accomplished)
19.

"Install a secret
noteblock in another
hermit's base, that
dings on a longer
timer (can be random
too).
The sound of the
noteblock is of your
choosing."[77]

(1st mission, alpha testing)
Xisumavoid left a noteblock with Vex's head, activated by sapling, in the base of an unknown Hermit.[78]

(1st mission)
FalseSymmetry left a noteblock with llama's head, activated by calibrated sculk sensor under Xisumavoid's storage room.[79]

(5th mission)
Skizzleman, with Grian's assistance, installed a noteblock with the head of a wandering trader in BdoubleO100's base.[80]

"Prank your VIEWERS in
any way you seem fit,
big or small. This
mission completes
when you reveal your
prank."

(2nd mission, quality control)
At the beginning of his episode 16 Iskall85 announced that he had to remove the Mission Possible initiative because the Hermits said they hated the idea. He then showed this mission and explained that The Mission HQ just had been moved to another location.[82]

(3rd mission)
Iskall85 presented the mission drawing at the new headquarters and drew this mission. After the cut he suddenly said he was leaving Hermitcraft and immediately showed the contents of this mission.[83]

(1st mission)
ImpulseSV blew up almost the whole Magic Mountain, damaging surrounding bases on the backup world pretending it's the real Hermitcraft server.[84]
22.

"Collect at least 10
diamonds (total) from
as many hermits as it
takes, while pretending
to be a debt collector
for a hermit who wish
to remain anonymous"[85]

[86]
(1st mission)
SmallishBeans tried with GeminiTay first, but couldn't get anything from her. Then he went to Rendog and managed to get all 10 diamonds from him.[87]
[88]
(9th mission)
Skizzleman decided to use his role as a Poe-Poe officer to convince hermits to pay. First he tried TangoTek, but he quickly realized that this was a mission. Then Skizzleman met with GoodTimesWithScar, who first paid 5 diamonds and then gave another 5 in exchange of revealing who he owed it to.[89]
23.
(unknown)

over something, somewhere in the
Hermit Lands, where
it's not necessarily
needed."[90]

(3rd mission)
xBCrafted he built in the indicated location TNT storage sticking to the 5x5 dimensions.[93]
26.

"Dig straight down
(1x1) till you hit
bedrock, if you hit
lava, start over in a
brand new hole from
the surface. Then
take all resources
that you mined and put
them in a shulker box,
then trade it to any
hermit for 1 diamond
block to complete this
mission.

If you hit lava you
need to include the
resources you mined
in the first shaft, with
the final resources.

By resource we are
refering to all blocks
and materials mined on
your way down.

Do not use freecam!"[94]

[95]
(7th mission)
Skizzleman managed to make a successful shaft the first time and then sold it to Cubfan135 as a mystery box.[96]

content and replace it
with another treasure
you seem fit to
complete this mission.[98]

(use the target block to
pick the right chest
[F3])"[99]

(2nd mission)
xBCrafted moved all the copper supply from the cheast to other plases in SmallishBeans' storage room and filled the chest with 54 TNT minecarts.[99]

35.

"Make up a theme song

Unused missions[]

A list of missions that were created while the project was under construction, but Iskall85 later looked through them again and decided not to use them. This usually meant he was writing a similar mission with the necessary modifications. Only missions 5 and 6 were left unchanged.

No. Mission Notes
1.

"Completely buy out a
shop in the shopping
district."[8]

It was mentioned in the comments that players could choose their own shops, so Iskall85 made a new version specifying that this is not allowed.[17]
2.

"Make this structure
look like an actual
nice building in the
Neighbourhood."[8]

Iskall85 thought this idea was great, but it might be too grindy, so he simplified it with the viewer's suggestion and specified that it was about The Mission HQ.[20]
3.

"Build a permanent
building in the
Neighbourhood in less
than 20 minutes, the
timer starts when you
close this book."[8]

Iskall85 rephrased it, extended the time to 30 minutes and adjusted the information about time start to the new version of Mission 4 (he first modified 4 and then 3). In the end, he didn't use this idea.[119]
4.

"Build a building in less
than 10 minutes and
convince another
hermit to buy it."[8]

Iskall85 decided that this mission was fine but needed to be rephrased. The main change was to increase the time to 15 minutes to include time to return to base and retrieve resources. There has also been added obligation to move the structure to the buyer's base and information about the start of time after closing the book.[27]
-

"Build a permanent
structure in the
Neighbourhood in
maximum 30 minutes.

* The timer starts
when you close this
book!"[119]

The modified version of mission 3 was not given a number because Iskall85 thought it might be too imposing on others. He decided to think about this idea and ultimately didn't use it.[119]
11.

"Imitate another hermit
in conversation until
you get called out for
being that specific
hermit."[120]

This mission has been officially added to the pool during alpha testing and the phase 1 of Mission Possible. It was drawn by ZombieCleo, but they lost the book, so Iskall85 made new one, with slightly changed content, but the task remained the same.[121]

Rewards[]

Tokens[]

The main, direct rewards of Mission Possible are mission tokens, one token per each completed mission. They are used to earn secondary rewards and can also be traded between Hermits.

Name Image Details
Mission Possible Tokens
Final and official form of tokens of Mission Possible, with custom model. Given automatically after returning the book with the mission after completing it. The main function is to exchange them for Cosmetical Rewards (two tokens to spin the wheel) but token trading between Hermits was also accepted.
Alpha Tokens (or just Mission Tokens)

Ghast tears renamed as Mission Tokens, used as a reward for completing a mission during alpha testing. Participants took them from the chest themselves after completing the mission. From the very beginning it was intended replaced with custom items (which ultimately happened).

Iskall85 wrote in Mission Possible instructions book that the alpha tokens "have great value", but currently they have no use yet. It cannot be used to spin the wheel in place of official tokens. Iskall85 planned to use them as currency to acquire The Chosen One hat, but hasn't implemented it yet.

Trivia[]

  • Iskall85 came up with the idea of Mission Possible during lunch.[5]
  • Mission #6 is a reference to the Hermit Dare that Grian got from Iskall85 in Season 9.[33] Iskall85 stated that this was the only challenge from an earlier minigame that was reused in Mission Possible.[122]
  • The name Mission Possible is a reference to Mission: Impossible film series.
  • Stressmonster101 was watching Iskall85's livestream where he was creating missions, but she stopped before that part to avoid spoilers.[123]
  • ImpulseSV joked at the that he wouldn't reveal the mission he drew until the next episode. However when he drew the mission, it turned out that the task required him not to show it to viewers, so he ultimately did not reveal its content.[124] In the next episode he made a prank on viewers, that he blew up Magic Mountain and then revealed that it was Mission #21.[84]
  • ZombieCleo suspected that thefts of deepslate diamond ores from Docm77's redstone contraptions was caused by Iskall85 and The Glitcher$ are a couple of people carrying out tasks from Mission Possible. However, they did not agree that it would fit the nature of Iskall85's game. ZombieCleo gave two examples of missions that could lead to the case:
    1. "Do it off camera, take a block of diamond from Doc's redstone" [sic]
    2. "Put a diamond ore block into Doc's redstone" [sic][125]
  • ZombieCleo lost Mission #11 book, so Iskall85 made new one, with slightly changed content, but the task remained the same. He send them new book and three Mission Possible Tokens as an compensation, because they had to wait for it 22 days.[121]
  • Iskall85 chose copper chest from SmallishBeans' storage room for a treasure chest in Mission #28. Because the task was to take its contents, Iskall85 sent a supply of copper (larger than the contents of the chest) through the postal system, with messages: "Thank you in advance!" and "Pro Tip: Dont store this in your copper chest." [sic]. He did not include any explanations or information about the sender.[126] SmallishBeans was very confused when he received it, but he followed the instructions.[127]
  • GoodTimesWithScar thought the game was called Mission Impossible until he read its real name in invitation book.[128]
