Dye-Duction, also known informally as Pearldle, is a minigame by PearlescentMoon inspired by Wordle, located in the basement of her flower shop, By Dyesign.

Construction[]

Pearl showcased the construction of Dye-duction in her episode 18, with other Hermits playing it in her episode 19 for the first time.

Initially, upon release, it did not support repeat letters and was missing several letters (Q, W, X, and Z); Pearl later updated the game to support all 26 letters of the alphabet as well as repeated letters.

The game features a leaderboard and records area in its locker room. OrionSound and other non-hermit friends often joined Pearl on her streams to play the game with her stream chat.

Just like its inspiration, players are tasked with guessing a five-letter word (set by Pearl and changed weekly) in a maximum of five guesses. If they fail to guess the word within the allotted guesses, they lose the game.

Guesses are registered by putting letters (custom-textured flowers and dye items with letter labels) into five dispensers within the gameplay area. Upon submitting a guess, the system consumes any correctly guessed letters that are in the right spot, but returns incorrectly guessed letters and correctly guessed letters that were placed in the wrong position into separate barrels.

Dye-Duction has two gamemodes: an untimed regular mode that costs 1 diamond to play, and Hard Mode, which is on a 10-minute timer, costs 2 diamonds to play, and can only be played once a week per person. Additionally, Hard Mode features a theme song composed by OrionSound that lasts for the duration of the timer.

Upon winning the game, players receive a bundle custom-textured as a bouquet of flowers. If they win on Hard Mode, they also additionally receive a custom-textured flower crown as a prize.

Trivia[]

  • The hard mode theme song had to be split into two roughly 5-minute segments due to the server audio player plugin's limitations. Due to the mechanism responsible for the timing being reliant on a dropped item's despawn timer, the second half of the song can be delayed if the server is excessively laggy and its tickspeed is reduced as a result, as did occur during the World Tour With Guests[1].
  • PearlescentMoon textured the flowers and dyes in her episode 20 after player feedback that they wanted to see the letters without having to hover over the items.
  • The bouquet bundle and flower crown were both textured by Hoffen, who has made many other custom-textured items for Hermitcraft.
