The Dragon Egg Dragon is a massive structure built in the likeness of an Ender Dragon composed of almost solely duplicated dragon eggs by PearlescentMoon in Season 9. It was created in response to Grian's and Docm77's duplication of dragon eggs, asserting PearlescentMoon's claim as owner of what should have been the one and only original dragon egg. This dragon was constructed above the Giant Bonsai Cherry Blossom Tree, next to Docm77's Perimeter.

History

Causes

In Season 9 PearlescentMoon initially possessed the only dragon egg on the server, keeping it in her base. At some point, Grian, who had started his collection of rare items, took her dragon egg and created a machine to duplicate it. He immediately returned it before she noticed, but he kept 32 copies.

Some time later, Grian gave one of these duplicate eggs to Docm77 as an apology for destroying his tunnel borer. This played a significant role in the Prank War that came after that. Docm77 took that dragon egg and used it in his own duplication machine, making thousands of duplicates. He and Rendog used these dragon eggs to bury the bases of the Buttercups.

Subsequently, PearlescentMoon finally found out about the duplication of her dragon egg. She declared all copies illegal and demanded their return. Docm77 voluntarily relinquished to her many of his copies, explaining that he did not know who owned the only dragon egg. She acquired even more when she cleared Scarland, fulfilling the commission from GoodTimesWithScar as the Cleaning Lady.

Building the dragon

After obtaining thousands of the illegal dragon eggs, PearlescentMoon decided to use them as a reaction to their unauthorized duplication and general mess-making. She decided that as a prank, she would build a huge Ender Dragon using copied dragon eggs, selecting the space above the Giant Bonsai Cherry Blossom Tree next to The Perimeter as the location.

Before she started building, she placed down a layer of string as an invisible foundational layer for the dragon eggs. She bought all the string from iBuy, so she farmed the rest herself using the spider spawner in the Shopping District.

Once she had all the necessary items, she started the building process, which she divided into several steps:

1. Building the platform out of dirt.
2. Putting the platform out of string over the dirt platform.
3. Putting dragon eggs in the shape of the Ender Dragon, on the string platform.
4. Carefully removing the dirt platform.
5. Clearing all the dragon eggs that fell during the process.
6. Ogling at the finished build.

After finishing building the Ender Dragon, she decided that it needed some form of marker to signify its creator, so she added a Cleaning Lady hat to the dragon.

Later fate

The Dragon Egg Dragon gained some attention and impressed the Hermits who noticed it. Docm77 was one of them and he even thought it was the coolest use of the dragon eggs he'd seen, so he decided (as the owner of the Perimeter) to keep the structure.

Dragon Egg Dragon remained in place for the rest of the season.

Appearance

The structure is in the shape of the Ender Dragon mob, but far larger. According to PearlescentMoon, it is possible that some proportions are not accurate to the original. The only element that has been added to the shape of the mob is the yellow terracotta helmet on the dragon's head.

The entire dragon form is made entirely of dragon eggs. Because these blocks are affected by gravity, the whole structure is supported by a layer of string (visible only from a very close distance) on the underside. The eggs are also incomplete blocks, and the gaps between them make it clear where the dragon has more layers (the main body) and where there are fewer layers (the wing membranes).

Trivia

• The Dragon Egg Dragon was built out of circa 23,000 dragon eggs.
• The structure is located near the real Ender Dragon, which Docm77 brought to the overworld and kept as a pet.
• JoeHills accidentally showed the dragon during his livestream. This was probably the first time the structure was shown publicly. Thereafter, JoeHills checked the spoiler channel on the discord, and he didn't find any information that he should avoid this location.
